The Primer Level

The Primary Level of The Singing Violin introduces the violin and bow to the earliest beginner. The child learns to hold the violin comfortably, to play pizzicato and arco, to play little pieces with open strings and one finger of the left hand, and to read the music being played. Notation charts and games facilitate music reading. Included are meters of two, three, and four quarters, and notation in eighths, quarters, halves, dotted halves, and rests. The bowings, in separate strokes and two-note slurs in the middle and upper half of the bow, emphasize the relationships with rhythm and tone production. The lesson materials are suitable for individual and group instruction.
